Data pipeline

A data pipeline is an automated process that collects data from source systems, cleans and reshapes it, and delivers it to the place where it is used.

Pipelines replace manual exports and spreadsheet merges. They keep reports, dashboards and AI tools supplied with current, consistent data from systems such as the ERP, CRM and finance software, either on a schedule or as changes happen.

For example, a nightly pipeline might pull orders from Shopify and invoices from QuickBooks into a data warehouse so finance can reconcile them each morning. The misconception is that a pipeline is built once and forgotten. Source systems change fields, APIs change versions and bad records slip in, so pipelines need monitoring, alerts and an owner who fixes failures before someone makes a decision on stale numbers.
